Huggies was launched in 1952 by the Dutch textile manufacturer Cornelis Kimberly and chemist Andries Clark. Inspired by the invention of synthetic, absorbent materials, the two entrepreneurs set out to create a new generation of disposable diapers that would be more comfortable and hygienic than traditional cloth nappies.

After years of R&D and testing, the first Huggies-branded disposable diapers hit the Dutch market in 1955 to immediate popularity. Kimberly and Clark then began expanding the brand across Europe, establishing manufacturing facilities in Germany, France, and Italy over the following decade.

In the 1970s, Huggies embarked on an ambitious global expansion, entering markets in Asia, Latin America, and eventually North America in the 1980s. By the 1990s, it had become one of the top-selling diaper brands worldwide, competing with American brands like Pampers and Luvs.
